Now's the perfect time of year to add some colour and some edibles to your garden, giving you and the family delicious homegrown vege and fruits into the later Summer months. No matter where you are in the country, there's an opportunity for you to get into the garden and get growing. There's few things that are more green than growing some (or all) of your own food.
Gardening is also a great activity to do with the kids - it's fun, it's a great opportunity to spend time together while teaching the kids about plants, gardening and growing, and it will keep everyone occupied for a while!
In the city of Sails, November is the best time to start planting all sorts of vegetables, berries, fruits and herbs, including asparagus, blackberries, capsicum, carrots, chillies, courgettes, cucumber, lettuce, potatoes, raspberries, corn and more.
Aside from vegetables, fruits and berries, Windy Wellington is primed for some floral planting - a great way to add some colour to the grey city. Pick up some Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Daisies, Marigolds, Poppies and more to add a rainbow to your outdoor space.
Add some herbs and more flavour to your summer BBQ by planting some Basil, Coriander, Kale, Parsley and Spring Onions. Great for salads and creating meat rubs, along with other spices you can grab from any local store.
QUEENSTOWN and DUNEDIN
The perfect time to add some citrus to your garden - great for flowers and for flavour! Plant some Lemons, Lime, Mandarin, Oranges and Passionfruit for making delicious cocktails and fresh fruit juices.
